NWHM Goals in Check
With NWHM coming to a close I had to take a few minutes to check the goals I had set out for myself.
1: Goal one was to buy some children’s books from my favorite childhood authors and donate them to my sons school library. I went at lunch today to the book store and picked up :
Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh– Man I loved this book growing up! Harriet M Welsch and her tomato sandwiches, just thumbing through the pages took me back to a time and place far far away I had forgotten about. I probably read it at least a dozen times when I was young.
Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell – the book wasn’t written by a woman but is about a young girl left to survive on her own on an island. After all these years I have never forgot the struggle and triumph she went through. The book is awesome. I still have my original version from when I was a kid.
2: Goal two was to read at least one biography about a woman involved with Suffrage and goal three was to learn about not as famous women in history. I put these together. I didn’t actually read a whole biography as in book, but I researched Margaret Sanger. I learn that people either loved her or hated her. Wikkipedia (yes more Wikkipedia) seemed to have the most objective article on her. I’m grateful that I have a choice and rights when it comes to reproduction. All I’m going to say is with the right group of us her life story, theories and struggles could make a very interesting debate!
3. Goal three was about art and researching lesser known female artists and community support for local female artists. I haven’t tackled this one yet…. But I still got a week and a half!
Cheers!
